THE BEST CRAFT RUMS ACCORDING TO THE AMERICAN DISTILLING INSTITUTE

An excellent article titled “The Best Craft Rums According To The American Distilling Institute” was recently published in Forbes magazine. In this article,The Best Craft Rums According To The American Distilling Institute, our own NJoy Spirits Distillery’s own Mermaid Rum, a multi-year Gold Medal Winner, was featured in the 9th, 10th, and 11th paragraphs of the article:

The Best Craft Rums “The third best-in-class winner was NJoy Spirits Distillery, Florida Mermaid Rum, 50% ABV, 750 ml, $40,” the American Distilling Institute reports. This is a rum made from Florida sugar cane juice blended with rums from the Caribbean pot still. After that, the blended rum is matured for ninety days in barrels that once contained the distillery’s renowned Wild Buck Whiskey.”

The Best Craft Rums “On the nose, there is an intense note of overripe or cooked banana, followed by floral aromas and creamy butter,” states the American Distilling Institute. More notes of tropical fruit, almond, vanilla, and caramel surface as the rum opens up, along with some seasoned oak notes. This rum has a strong Jamaican influence in its aroma.”

The Best Craft Rums “On the palate, there are more fruit notes along with cinnamon, a hint of clove, and some browned butter,” the American Distilling Institute states. With hints of creamy browned butter and tropical spices, the finish is lengthy.”

We think the following vital excerpts will be of interest to you:

The Best Craft Rums, According To The American Distilling Institute, “The American Distilling Institute (ADI) holds a Judging of Craft Spirits every spring. The competition honors the best artisan spirits both domestically and internationally.”

The competition assembled About fifty spirit judges since 2007 to assess entries from small and medium-sized producers. Entries may be submitted by ADI members and non-members alike.”

The Best Craft Rums, According To The American Distilling Institute “In addition to the usual listing of bronze, silver, gold, and double gold, the ADI’s craft spirit judging also recognizes the Best of Category and Best of Class. These are the top entrants among the Gold Medal winners.”

The Best Craft Rums According to the American Distilling Institute, “Rum was the world’s first truly global spirit. Today, rum is produced all over the world and has proven popular among craft spirit producers. (There were three rums that were chosen as Best of Class winners.”

The Best Craft Rums According to the American Distilling Institute, “craft rums are the cutting edge of contemporary rum innovation. These rums are very reasonably priced, but they can be hard to find. Many are only available on a regional basis or directly from the distillery. If you are a fan of rum and want to explore new and interesting rum expressions, these rums are well worth seeking out. Remember, half the fun is in the search; the other half is in drinking them.”

THE BEST CRAFT RUMS ACCORDING TO THE AMERICAN DISTILLING INSTITUTE

This Forbes magazine article, The Best Craft Rums According to the American Distilling Institute, it was written by world-renowned spirits contributor Joseph V. Micallef. In his About Page, he says, “I have been writing and speaking about wines and spirits for 20 years. Along the way, I became a winemaker, Oregon Pinot Noir; a judge for various international competitions, among them the Irish Whisky Awards and the International Wine and Spirits Competition; wrote a book on Scotch Whisky: Its History, Production, and Appreciation; and worked on one on Tequila. I also earned the Diploma in Wines and Spirits from the WSET.”

“I have tasted a lot of wines and spirits, from 200-year-old ports to centuries-old Cognacs to many of the world’s oldest whiskies. I also write about the dusty, forgotten places of the world, the ones that reek of history and whose stories still resonate in the 21st century. The rest of the time, I cover international politics. An eclectic combination to be sure; then again, the state of the world would drive anyone to drink.”
