Old Fashioned Cocktail made with NJoy Spirits’ Wild Buck Whiskey
The Old Fashioned is one of the most iconic and timeless whiskey cocktails ever created. Known for its simplicity and balance, the drink highlights the flavor of the whiskey with just a few complementary ingredients. When crafted with NJoy Spirits’ Wild Buck Whiskey, a bold, handcrafted 100% rye whiskey distilled in Florida, the Old Fashioned transforms into a rich, spicy, and unforgettable experience. Here’s how to make the perfect Old Fashioned using Wild Buck Whiskey.
Old Fashioned Cocktail made with NJoy Spirits’ Wild Buck Whiskey
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Wild Buck Whiskey
- 1 sugar cube (or 1/2 tsp simple syrup)
- 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters
- Orange peel
- Ice (large cube preferred)
- Optional: Luxardo cherry for garnish
Instructions:
- Start with the sugar and bitters: Add one sugar cube and 2–3 dashes of Angostura bitters to a mixing glass or directly to your rocks glass. If you prefer a quicker dissolve, substitute 1/2 teaspoon of simple syrup. The bitters add depth and aromatic complexity, while the sugar balances the whiskey’s boldness.
- Muddle gently: If using a sugar cube, add a splash of water and gently muddle it with the bitters until the sugar dissolves. Avoid over-muddling; you’re blending, not crushing.
- Add the whiskey: Pour 2 ounces of NJoy Spirits’ Wild Buck Whiskey. This rye whiskey has a bold and spicy character with notes of black pepper, caramel, and vanilla, making it an excellent base for an Old Fashioned that holds its own against the sweetness and bitters.
- Add ice and stir: Add a large ice cube or a few smaller ones to the glass. Stir the cocktail gently for 20–30 seconds, allowing the ice to slightly dilute the drink and chill thoroughly without watering it down too much.
- Garnish with style: Twist an orange peel over the glass to express its oils, rub the peel around the rim, and drop it into the glass. For a touch of indulgence, add a Luxardo cherry as a garnish.
Tasting Notes:
When made with Wild Buck Whiskey, the Old Fashioned delivers a robust, spicy foundation that harmonizes beautifully with the mellow sweetness of sugar and the bitters’ herbal edge. The orange peel adds a citrus aroma that perfectly matches the rye’s peppery bite and oak-aged character.
