MINT JULEP COCKTAIL: WILD BUCK WHISKEY

According to Wikipedia, a “julep” is typically described as a sweet beverage, especially one that contains medication. The word itself comes from the Persian word گلاب (Golâb), which means rosewater, and the Spanish word “julepe,” which comes from Spanish Arabic. Unlike the American mint juleps that came after, English juleps were mainly medicinal, had a low alcohol content, and frequently included camphor.

Most likely in the eighteenth century, the mint julep first appeared in the southern United States. The Candidate, which features the drunken character “Mr. Julip,” and “A Short Poem on Hunting,” which appears in the Williamsburg Virginia Gazette and characterizes Julip as a mixture “Which doctors storm at and which some adore,” are the earliest known mentions of Julip, which date back to 1770. More proof that mint julep was prescribed as a beverage can be found in Medical Communications 1784: “difficulty swallowing and frequent retching in the stomach.” I then gave her a prescription for a mint julep, some opening powders, and an emetic.”

INGREDIENTS: (MINT JULEP COCKTAIL)

• 2-1/2 oz Wild Buck Whiskey
• 4 to 5 Mint Leaves
• 2 Sugar Cubes
• 1 Mint Sprig for Garnish

• Place the mint leaves and sugar in your julep cup and mix them until the sugar dissolves and you get the aroma of mint.
• Add Wild Buck Whiskey and fill the glass with crushed ice.
• Stir the mixture until it becomes frosty.
• 1 Mint Sprig for Garnish
